ABOUT ME
Hello, I am Nathan Jackiw, and I am a 14 year old Life Scout from Troop 270 in Frankfort IL working on my Eagle Scout project. At the moment I have 41 merit badges and I serve as the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader for Rainbow Council's National Jamboree contingent. I also serve as my Troop's Unit representative of the Order of the Arrow and I am Waupecan Lodge's Trainings Chairman. Additionally, I serve on the special events committee for Order of the Arrow Section G9. During my last four and a half years, I have attended National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT), and the more advanced, National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE) at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
I attend Lincoln-Way East High School and I am on the Cross Country, Wrestling, and Scholastic Bowl teams. I am also involved in the Lincoln Way East music program where I am a percussionist, and participate in the JROTC program. Finally, I spend my free time playing drum set at School of Rock Mokena.
MY EAGLE PROJECT
In order to obtain the highest rank in BSA, Eagle Scout, you must have a project that benefits your community. For my Eagle project, I am building a memorial in downtown Frankfort, Illinois to honor the men and women who fought in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The monument will consist of two granite slabs just northwest of the intersection of Locust St. and Nebraska St. Each granite slab will be 3’ wide, 4’ tall, and 4” deep. The area surrounding the monument will start at the trail, parallel with the furthest set back tree and there will be a 5 ft wide paved path to bring people towards the monument. The path will be 30 ft 8 in long to the start of the semi-circle. The semi-circle will have a 24 ft diameter. The path and semi-circle will be made of red brick pavers leading to the two granite slabs, and in the middle there will be a flagpole that is 25 ft tall. The monument will be inscribed with a dedication similar to "This memorial is dedicated to the brave men and women who served in wars against terror to help let freedom reign." I choose to honor the veterans of these wars because I felt that they should be honored in the same ways that veterans of other wars have been. My Eagle project has been approved by the Village of Frankfort.
In order to accomplish this project I must raise $105,000, which is based on estimates already received for the monument portion, flag pole, and estimated costs associated with supplies and work to grade, level and install the pavers, retaining wall, and flag pole. I will attach a 3D rendering as soon as it is available (expected after January 1). Much of the labor will be done by Scouts of Troop 270.
Thank you for reading about me and my Eagle Scout project. Please consider donating so I can bring this memorial to life. All funds are held in Troop 270's bank account and segregated for the benefit of this project. Thank you for your consideration and for any and all donations to this project.
